MAGGIE VALLEY DAY 1
Started my trip this morning at 553am and watched the sun rise from the seat of my motorcycle. It was 76 degrees and partly cloudy, which I call comfortable without a jacket, although there were some goose bumps from time to time.
The ride across southern Missouri is always enjoyable. Passed many sawmills, which are much better to smell than the chicken houses in southwest Missouri. Rode 179 miles before .my first stop for gas and breakfast in Mountain View. The next area was the Mark Twain National Forest. Rode 200 miles before the next stop for gas.
The terrain turned flat in southeast Missouri, then I crossed the Mississippi and Ohio rivers into Kentucky. It was heating up real good by noon time as I crossed into Tennessee and went through Nashville, which necessitated more frequent stops for Gatorade and cooling down a little. The temp got up to 92 degrees with a heat index of 100. Had a brief rain shower which actually felt pretty good! Arrived in Lebanon to stay the night, cleaned the bugs off the bike and ate White Castle hamburgers for supper.
Many have asked me what kind of gas mileage I get, so I kept track today and am reporting 43.4mpg.
Total mileage foe the day was 546, a pretty decent number which will probably be the highest one-day of the trip.
On to Maggie Valley, NC in the morning.
